Covidien also announced plans to add additional products to the Tri-Staple technology platform over the next year.
From the press release:

The new Endo GIA stapling system includes an ergonomically enhanced, lightweight handle designed for precise control. The easy-to-use stapling solution features unique reloads using Tri-Staple technology to deliver outstanding performance across a wider range of tissue thicknesses. From Ethicon Endo-Surgery Comes Longer Harmonic Ace Curved Shears

From Ethicon Endo-Surgery Comes Longer Harmonic Ace Curved Shears

Ethicon Endo-Surgery has released a new, longer curved shears in its HARMONIC ACE line of endoscopic devices. The new shears sport 45 cm of access specifically to address problems specific to obese patients during laparoscopic procedures.

The additional length of the HARMONIC ACE® 45 cm enables surgeons to reach anatomy during procedures on obese patients while reducing the need to relocate trocars. The ACE® 45 cm also reduces the need to push down on patients’ abdomens, enabling surgeons to rotate the jaws of the device without impacting the trocar.* The HARMONIC ACE® 45 cm, which is being introduced at the annual meeting of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), is primarily intended for use in bariatric, general, colorectal and gynecologic laparoscopic surgeries for obese patients, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, colectomy and hysterectomy.

Maquet AV Conference 3.0 for OR's Now Available

Maquet has released version 3.0 of its AV Conference operating room system that manages video feeds, monitors, and clinical data via a touchscreen interface. The system is designed to make video in the OR easy and intuitive, and to allow for surgical telemedicine as a practical option.

The central cockpit of Maquet OR integration is the AV Conference 3.0 system. It is used to control Maquet equipment, like the Magnus OR table and the PowerLED OR lights. Systems and devices from other manufacturers, such as endoscopy equipment can be integrated without any difficulties. The equipment pool that is found in most operating theatres, this compatibility is particularly significant when it comes to choosing the right system for coordinating workflows.

Covidien V-Loc Knotless Wound Closure Devices

Covidien V-Loc Knotless Wound Closure Devices

Covidien has globally launched the V-Loc 90 device, the newest in its line of V-Loc knotless wound closure devices. The first one, the V-Loc 180 was launched late last year. The devices use a uni-directional barbed thread which fixates itself in the tissue, with a loop at the start of the thread which anchors it securely at the beginning of the incision. Standard suturing techniques can be used, but without the need to tie knots to fixate the suture. This way tension is distributed more evenly and wounds can be closed more quickly than with conventional sutures. The V-Loc 180′s suture material is completely absorbed in 180 days, while the V-Loc 90′s thread is absorbed in 90 to 110 days.

AnchorPort Single Incision Laparoscopy Kit

AnchorPort Single Incision Laparoscopy Kit

SurgiQuest has received FDA clearance for its 5mm AnchorPort Trocars for single incision laparoscopy. A common problem in laparoscopy is the slippage of trocars further into or out of the abdomen. The AnchorPort is a trocar that anchors itself in the abdominal wall by using an integrated elastomeric, stretchable cannula system that goes in elongated and, when the insertion gun is retracted, self adjusts to the abdominal wall thickness. The short trocar size made possible by this mechanism prevents the instruments from crisscrossing. The device can be inserted through a one inch skin incision through which three or more cannula ports can be inserted.
